How to write capital B
- Start at the top line and pull a tall downstroke to the baseline.
- Lift, return to the top and draw the upper bowl round to the midline.
- Continue into the larger lower bowl, close it on the baseline and end with a small loop.
How to write lowercase b
- Start at the baseline and sweep up into a tall loop, coming back down to the baseline.
- Swing a small bowl to the right and back up to the midline.
- Exit with a short stroke to the right at the midline.
Common mistakes
- A common slip is letting the bowl of b drop to the baseline, which turns it into a looped l with a bump.
- With the capital, learners try to join it to the next letter; B ends with a stroke that stops, so lift the pen and start the next letter fresh.
Joining b to other letters
The b ends at the midline, not the baseline, so the next letter starts from a short level bridge instead of rising from the line. That is why letters look slightly different after b.
