How to write capital M
- Start at the baseline with a small entry loop and rise to the top line.
- Pull down to the baseline, rise into a second hump, then a third, each a little shorter.
- Finish the last downstroke with a tail that joins the next letter.
How to write lowercase m
- Start at the baseline and rise into a rounded hump at the midline, then pull down.
- Retrace up into a second hump and a third, each pulled down to the baseline.
- Exit with a short upstroke to the right.
Common mistakes
- A common slip is adding a fourth hump to m when it follows a letter with a tail, because the entry stroke looks like a hump.
- With the capital, learners stop the final stroke short instead of carrying it into the next letter; the tail of M is the join.
Joining m to other letters
The m exits from the baseline with a short upstroke that becomes the entry stroke of the next letter.
