How to write capital P
- Start at the top line and pull a tall downstroke to the baseline.
- Lift, return to the top and draw the bowl round to the right.
- Close the bowl against the stem at the midline.
How to write lowercase p
- Start at the baseline and rise to the midline.
- Pull a long downstroke below the baseline, then retrace up.
- Swing a bowl to the right that closes on the baseline and exit to the right.
Common mistakes
- A common slip is stopping p at the baseline instead of below it, which turns it into a small n.
- With the capital, learners try to join it to the next letter; P ends with a stroke that stops, so lift the pen and start the next letter fresh.
Joining p to other letters
The p exits from the baseline with a short upstroke that becomes the entry stroke of the next letter.
