Crafts cover everything from a vinyl label on a jar to an embroidered towel to a stencilled sign, and the export changes with the craft. The font generator opens here with the Cutting profile selected, which suits vinyl, card and stencils; switch to standard SVG for embroidery digitising and to a 300 DPI PNG for transfer paper and sublimation.

Faces by craft

For cutting, monoline and bold scripts (Sacramento, Pacifico, Lobster, Dancing Script) cut and weed cleanly; for embroidery, heavier faces hold a satin stitch; for stencils, remember that closed counters need bridges, which the Cutting profile does not add, so choose a face with open letters or add bridges in your cutting software.

Licence

Everything is open-licence: selling finished goods made with these fonts is permitted without attribution.

Match the export to the material

Match the export to the material. Vinyl and card: the Cutting profile, welded, with strokes thick enough to weed. Embroidery: a plain SVG handed to the digitiser, in a face heavy enough for a satin stitch, usually 8 millimetres or more for lowercase. Stencils: a face with open letters, or bridges added afterwards, because a closed o or a falls out of a stencil. Sublimation and transfer paper: a PNG at 300 DPI with a transparent background, mirrored by the printer driver if the transfer requires it. Wood burning and engraving: a single-line export, where the tool follows one path per stroke instead of tracing an outline.

Sizing by hand

Sizing by hand is easier than it looks: the export panel shows the physical width and height at the chosen DPI before you download, so a 4-inch jar label or a 10-inch sign is set once rather than by trial. For a set of matching pieces, export the same text at each size rather than scaling a bitmap, and keep the SVG as the master. If a craft needs the same word in several materials, export once per material rather than reusing a file made for another, since the cutting, embroidery and print exports differ in how they handle overlaps and hairlines.

Cutting it on a Cricut

  1. Export with the Cutting machine profile, not the standard SVG. Design Space rejects editable text, gradients, transparency and pattern fills.
  2. In Design Space: Upload → Upload Image → select the SVG → Upload → add to Canvas.
  3. Each colour becomes a cut layer; keep one-colour lettering a single flat colour.
  4. Zoom to 400% to check path smoothness before cutting.
  5. For script, use Weld (or export with Weld on) so joined letters cut as one shape; otherwise the machine cuts every overlap.
  6. To draw rather than cut, use the single-line export with a pen tool; an outline SVG makes the pen trace both edges of every stroke.
