How to use

  1. Choose a template and enter the letters, names or words to practise.
  2. Pick a handwriting face, the rule system and the grade preset; the first page previews live.
  3. Download the PDF or print it at 100% scale.

Worksheets that trace the stroke, not the outline

Most worksheet makers dash the outline of a font, which gives a hollow dotted letter with two edges to trace and no sense of the pen's path. This generator traces the centreline of each letter, computed once per handwriting face from the glyph's medial axis and stored as stroke paths, so a dotted or dashed row follows the motion a child's pen should make. Model rows use the solid letterform; traced, dotted, dashed, ghost, fade and prompted rows all come from the same stroke data.

Fifteen templates

Letter formation, full alphabet, letter families grouped by stroke, joins, name practice, custom words, spelling lists, sight words by grade, sentence and passage copywork, pangrams, numbers, days and months, seasonal words, and blank lined paper. Each has a sensible progression, for example model → traced → dotted → independent for names, which you can change row by row.

Five instructional faces

The faces are described by what they teach, not by brand: traditional slant cursive, continuous stroke with lead-ins, vertical simplified, italic unlooped, and looped cursive. They approximate the main classroom models used in US, UK, Australian, Italian and German schools. If your school uses a particular published method, choose the face whose description matches it.

Rules, grades and pages

Rule systems: three lines with a dashed midline, double line, single baseline, four line, grid, Seyès (the French ruling with 8 mm major lines) and none. Grade presets set the line height: 1 inch for pre-K, 3/4 inch for K–1, 5/8 inch for grades 2–3, 1/2 inch from grade 4, and 3/8 inch for adults. Midline position, rule colour and weight, slant guides, start dots and arrows are all adjustable. Pages are US Letter or A4 and the header can carry a title, name and date lines, and a teacher or class name. An answer-key page prints every row solid.

Printing correctly

The PDF is built at 72 points per inch with an explicit page size and a footer reminder. Print at 100% or "Actual size"; "Fit to page" rescales the rules so the letter heights no longer match the guides. Greyscale is fine. For a class set, print one and photocopy, or paste up to 30 names and download a ZIP with one personalised PDF per child.
