How to write capital Z
- Start at the top line with a curved cap stroke to the right.
- Pull a diagonal down to the baseline.
- Loop below the baseline and end with a tail that joins the next letter.
How to write lowercase z
- Start at the baseline and rise to the midline.
- Make a small hump and pull a diagonal to a point on the baseline.
- Loop below the baseline, return to the line and exit to the right.
Common mistakes
- A common slip is skipping the point at the baseline of z, which turns it into a loose g.
- With the capital, learners stop the final stroke short instead of carrying it into the next letter; the tail of Z is the join.
Joining z to other letters
The z ends in a loop below the baseline. The loop closes on the way up and its tail runs into the next letter from the baseline.
