To join j to h, take the j through its loop below the baseline, close the loop as you come back up, and let the tail run straight on into the h from the baseline. The loop should be narrow; a wide one crowds the h.

How a loop join works
The first letter ends in a descender loop below the baseline. The loop closes on the way back up and its tail carries straight on as the connector, so the next letter starts from the baseline as usual. Keeping the loop narrow keeps the pair readable.
The mistake to watch for
Learners make the loop too wide or leave it open, so the two letters tangle or the first one reads as a different letter; practise the loop letter alone until its closing point is steady, then add the second letter.

Write jh on its own a few times, then inside the words below, then in a sentence. This is one of the harder joins, because the second letter has to adapt to the first; a week of short daily drills on the practice sheet is a reasonable plan.
